5 Tips on How to use Tutorials the right way
🌙 Don’t squirrel them away
We all know it. We see some discounts on tutorials, and we are immediately in the mood of ‘wanting them‘. There are free ones for a limited time? You need it. A friend is having a new one and is so kind to give it to you. Of course! There are so many opportunities to get new tutorials, but the truth is we don’t need all of them. At least not at the same time. It’s nice to have them, but they are like clothes. We have a bunch of them but rarely look at them after they are buried in our wardrobe, and in the end, we are using only our favorite pieces. But we still don’t stop buying new stuff. We live in a world where we think, more is better and that we have to run behind every product we see, especially when there is an offer. DON’T hoard them. When you buy a tutorial then do it in a more conscious way. If you have the feeling you miss a cheap offer. No, you don’t… There will be always discounts. Ask yourself if you really need it at that moment, if you ever need it anyway, and if you have time for it in the next week. We totally lose track of things we only have out of an impulse or mood. Be wiser with where you spend your money. Education is good but not when you only hoard it And never use it.
🌙 One Tutorial a day
This is a big thing. I know from myself that we are pros at binge-watching content, even when it’s something inspiring or educational. We think that watching a lot brings us more knowledge, but the truth is that watching alone doesn’t make us smarter or better at the thing we watched. When we consume too much at the same time, we stress our brain and overwhelm it. At the end of it, we don’t remember anything. I recommend it to everyone. If you want to watch a tutorial to learn something new, then only watch one a day. If you grabbed a bad one that doesn’t teach you anything, of course, search more and find a better one, but in general, give yourself the time to save the new information in your head from this one source before you move on. You will see, you will remember so much more.
🌙 Take your time
After watching a tutorial, mostly on double speed nowadays, we think that we immediately know how to use it. Even when it works. The first time doesn’t mean that we can use it in any situation. Give yourself and your skill a few days to constantly practice it. Not only once, not twice... a few times, until you feel you can use it blindly and without needing a second to think about where the right button was. Hustling through learning will only bring you moment-knowledge which is saved in our short-term memory. You probably know it right now and maybe tomorrow, but not a week ago anymore. If you can, try to learn things for your long-term memory. In the long run, this will bring you more knowledge in your life.
🌙 Practice the topic besides watching
Often we watch tutorials beside our normal job because we have the feeling we still learn something from it. We do, but nothing will last long when our mind is doing something different at that time. If you really want to learn something new, then make room for it and put your time and attention into it. Redo what you are learning while you listen to it. Maybe watch the video again and do another practice. Listening is great for getting the idea of something, but the only action that can bring you the result you want.
🌙 You can’t learn everything from one Tutorial
The thing about Tutorials is that we think when we buy one, especially when it’s a full tutorial where a whole character design is explained and shown, then we think after watching this we know EVERYTHING. But the truth is, there is SO MUCH to learn on each subject, and it takes so many years to learn the skills, that people who are doing tutorials, even when this one is 60 hours long, can’t put everything in it at once. Each subject would take many tutorials to tell everything about it. Most of the long ones only tell the basics of the subject and that is good because we need to start at that point and from zero. So if you want to buy a new tutorial, please keep in mind, that, of course, you will gain more knowledge and improve your skills, but just a bit. Because you will not find all information you need in just ONE tutorial. You have to go to a lot of other posts, tutorials, interviews, studies and so much more, to really level your skills up. Just keep in mind, to not expect a whole transformation with one Tutorial in general.
